What is Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) ?
Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a common neurological disorder that occurs when the median nerve, which runs from your forearm into the palm of the hand, becomes pressed or squeezed at the wrist.
Causes of Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS)
Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by pressure on the median nerve. The carpal tunnel is a narrow passageway surrounded by bones and ligaments on the palm side of the hand. When the median nerve is compressed, symptoms can be appeared.
Ayurvedic View of Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS)
In Ayurveda increase or vitiation of Vata results in compression and pain which is present in CTS. Ayurveda management of Carpal tunnel syndrome involves the management of vitiated Vata Dosha. The primary aim is to ease inflammation and pain by improving blood circulation and relaxing the muscles.

Internal medications are given to reduce the symptoms. Local application of oil/ powdered medicine, pichu (applying cotton soaked in suitable oil over the affected part), agnikarma (cauterization) etc.. are enough in uncomplicated cases.
For those with associated diseases (like arthritis, diabetes, obesity), hospitalization is needed. Along with suitable medication, procedures such as udwarthana (medicinal powder massage), local/ whole body snehana (eg: abhyanga), swedana (local or whole body), virechana, kashayavasti, ksheeravasti, anuvasana vasti etc are given after assessing patient’s condition. Those patients with associated stress/ other mental distresses, yoga/ psychotherapy/ meditation should be provided.

Diet
All the food article that the patient consume should pacify the aggravated vata. Avoid red meat, spicy food, cold food, curd, Bengal gram etc as per the direction of physician. Drink more water.
Exercise
Mild exercises are done focusing wrist joint (like bending, rotating etc).
